Easington Lane: one at the hip
For men working down the pit it was often necessary for the lady of the house to help out when birds were being raced - the birds would be carrying a second ring that had to be removed promptly and inserted into a clock to record the arrival time.
Each stone had a short verse by Linda France, carrying the lilt of nursery rhymes and traditional expressions.
