Sited at Heatherslaw Mill in north Northumberland this commission marks the sponsorship by Intervet UK Ltd of otter habitat regeneration in the Tweed and Till catchments. The otter is chasing an eel in a swirling design.
I chose Westmoreland blue slate for its ability to take a watery polish and for its durability. It very soon acquired an extra polish around the mouth and cheeks, and I fondly wondered if that resulted from lots of visitors touching it...
The polish actually came from the natural lanolin of sheep, who found it a convenient height to scratch their backs!
