This was made for my MA show using 3D design software controlled by a script - a sphere is scaled and rotated about ten times to arrive at a complexity of form that would be almost impossible to make by hand.
The computer file was sent by email to a company based in Oxford who used a 5 axis stone milling machine to create the finished piece. The texture left by the diamond tool is very similar to that which a fine chisel could achieve
