I did my masonry training at South Dorset Technical College, Weymouth, which is right next door to the Isle of Portland where all my teachers had trained. From there I went to work for the Cathedral Works Organisation at Chichester, repairing not just the cathedral itself but many historic buildings across the south of England. I made this bevel under the guidance of a keen model engineer, using soft copper for riveting the brass. The folding 2ft. rule is made in box wood by Rabone.
